City Hall at St Andrew’s Road
The Japanese general Seishiro Itagaki surrendered to Lord Mountbatten on the steps on 12 September 1945 at City Hall (Originally known as Municipal Building). Municipal Building was renamed to City Hall in 1951. It was also here that Mr Lee Kuan Yew declared Singapore’s independence on 9 August 1965.
